The role of the director of photography

Yanqiu Fei is a Chinese cinematographer, director and screenwriter currently based in France. Yanqiu Fei's cinematography credits include the feature documentary Last Year of Darkness, winner of the NEXT:WAVE prize at CPH:DOX and the Cannes Doc Award at Visions du Réel.

In this workshop, participants will discover how a cinematographer constructs the vision of a film, from preparation to artistic collaboration, in both fiction and documentary. Drawing on film extracts, the workshop will reflect on the ethics of the gaze and cinematographic practice. Yanqiu will also share his professional experience, followed by a question-and-answer session.
