Bring nature in

Léa Ducré
Documentary - 53 min - France - 2025

Pioneering nature rights lawyer Marine Calmet is preparing an unprecedented appeal against the French state following the slaughter of over 800 sharks on Reunion Island since 2014. Alongside oceanographer François Sarano and activist Didier Dérand, she is organizing a mock trial in which law students develop the arguments of the future appeal.
The aim: to have the ocean recognized as a legal entity and push the judge to condemn the slaughter. Everything converges at the United Nations Ocean Conference in France, where Marine is trying to rally the world's NGOs to make the oceans the new legal subjects of the 21st century.
