GreenLink: Connecting Europe through its youth

Building active citizenship with those who are furthest from it

GreenLink aims to strengthen citizen participation, volunteering and democratic engagement in Europe by connecting local communities, civil society organizations and young citizens around common priorities such as ecological transition, social inclusion and human rights.

The project promotes volunteering as an essential lever for solidarity and sustainability, by building a European network of towns and associations committed to inclusive and participative local action.

GreenLink is not just a project for young people; it’s built with them. Our mission is to turn civic engagement into a concrete reality for young Europeans, especially JAMOs (young people with fewer opportunities) and marginalized communities.

Our vision

We believe that European cohesion depends on the direct involvement of citizens on the ground. By using mobilizing themes such as the environment, minority rights and culture, we create a bridge to sustainable democratic participation.

Our objectives

  • Inclusion: Putting young people with fewer opportunities (50% of our beneficiaries) at the heart of our action.
  • Long-term commitment : Go beyond the one-off event with a structured six-month volunteering program.
  • Transnational cooperation: Create a strong network between municipalities and civil society organizations across Europe (France, Italy, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Cyprus, Latvia).

    Consortium activities

European Civic Service (ECS) was created in response to the persistent exclusion of young people, unequal access to mobility opportunities and the limited European scope of national civic service programs. Many young people, particularly those with fewer opportunities, face structural barriers to international experience, skills development and civic participation. SCE fills this gap by combining long-term civic engagement with structured European mobility, in an inclusive and supported framework.

This program enables young people aged 16 to 25 (up to 30 for disabled young people) to carry out a national civic service mission of at least six months in their country of residence, followed by a six-month European mission with a partner organization abroad.

Its implementation is based on a “tandem” model, associating local and European volunteers to foster peer learning, intercultural dialogue and mutual support. Host and sending organizations coordinate recruitment, mentoring, pedagogical support and reintegration assistance.

The main beneficiaries are young people, especially those with fewer opportunities due to their educational, social, economic, geographical or personal situation. Stakeholders include civic service structures, youth organizations, municipalities, European partner organizations and public authorities.

This initiative contributes to skills development, professional integration, social inclusion, active citizenship and a stronger sense of European belonging, while supporting local communities through community service projects.
