Documentary by Volker Schlöndorff, Idriss Diabaté, Alassane Diago, and Laurene Manaa Abdallah (with Tony Rinaudo, Alternative Nobel Prize)

Germany, 2022

In 1981, the Australian Tony Rinaudo, a young agronomist, arrived in Niger to fight against the growing extension of the desert and the misery of the population and discovered the ravages of an intensive agriculture inherited from the colonial era. He then notices under this soil considered dead, a huge network of roots. A discovery which will be at the origin of an unprecedented regreening policy, giving hope to a whole population. This approach has been so successful that it has been applied in at least 24 African countries, providing a livelihood for thousands of farmers.
