Teaghlach de'n Fife Seanachaidh
The Gaelic phrase above loosely translates to 'Family of Fife Historian'. A Seanachaidh is a family storyteller, the one who relates all of the family lore and traditions. That is what we aspire to at this website. We hope to bring together all that was, and that is - the definitive source of what is the Fife Family from Cumberland County, Nova Scotia.

My name is Martin Fife, I am the third son of Hollis Austin Fife, who was the third son of Bennie Hills Fife, who in turn was the fifth son of James Buckley Fife. James was the third son of Samuel Fife who was the second son of John Fife, the progenitor of all of us Fifes from Cumberland County. The story begins when John brought his Marty & Diana family to the shores of the new world - to Nova Scotia to begin a new life.

I have been skirting the practice of family genealogy for about twenty years. My interest ebbed and flowed with events in my life and those of my immediate family. With the advent of the internet and the inspiration of kin such as Carolyn Holladay, Sandra Naehrig, and Reg Handford; who have done so much to document our family history and to whom we all owe a great deal of gratitude; I have embarked on the project that you are now visiting.

Diana and I hope that you enjoy this site as much as we have enjoyed creating and maintaining it. An added bonus that we really didn't expect when we started this was to have made the acquaintance of so many wonderful relatives that have been lost to us until now. This will always be our biggest and most cherished reward for the work we have done here.
